WINDOW RESTORATION
Traditional windows are a highly functional invention that can outperform modern replacements in longevity and energy efficiency. Are you using them to their full potential? Reviving old windows which are on the brink of death is what we are experts at.
WOOD WINDOWS
The restoration process will vary based on the style of wood window, but here is the standard process for a double hung window:
Our craftspeople begin by removing your wooden sash to our workshop for full paint removal, de-glazing, and fine sanding. Original glass is cleaned and polished, then re-glazed using traditional putty which has a 40+ year lifespan. Any wood repairs or fabrication of new parts are made using traditional or old growth species with very minimal use of epoxies. Sash are hand painted for maximum longevity using procedures tested by the Forest Products Laboratory. Once back onsite, we refurbish your entire window unit - jamb, sill, interior and exterior casings before applying new paint system. Before re-installing sash we apply a period appropriate spring bronze or interlocking weatherstripping system - along with changing out your sash cord/chain or spiral balances. Original hardware has paint removed, buffed, and lacquered. Once complete, your entire window unit is on the same maintenance cycle, fully functional with smooth operation, weather tight, and beautiful again.
STEEL AND ALUMINUM WINDOWS
Steel and aluminum windows are removed temporarily from jamb and have paint coatings and corrosion brought to clean metal before a two phase epoxy primer system which permanently halts future corrosion. Old glazing is removed and glass is freshly glazed before new factory finish coatings and hand painted glass seals. Original operating hardware is refurbished, or replaced with matching aesthetics. Once installed, your metal windows are fully functional with smooth operation, and beautiful again.

WINDOW SURVEYS & CONSULTATIONS
Old Window Revival offers the implementation of extensive window surveys for historic organizations, government agencies, architects, and contractors. Because historic window deterioration and design is often complex, having a thorough window survey for your structure carried out by a window specialist is crucial to the accuracy of your project estimating and specifications. A window survey should be carried out by a company that understands proper repair methodologies and standards set forth by the Secretary of the Interior.
We also offer consultations on historic facades (wood and brick clad), traditional windows and doors, and general historic building pathology for both residential and public buildings in Greater Houston.
